John and Les - changing over!!

We have the honour this year of being captained by Mr. Leslie Hill. Les has been a member of the Pontypool Golf Club for 40 years. He has captained the Senior Section on two previous occasions, and has been the secretary for over five years. He is a talented all round sportsman and more than an adequate golfer.
This year, he will be aided and abetted by his vice captain, Mr. Norman Dodd. Norman has been a member of the Pontypool Club for some 30 years. He comes from a sporting background, is a good golfer, who plays with adventure.
The Senior Section this year has some 45 members, with a wide range of playing abilities. We all enjoy the friendly competitions, held every Monday afternoon, where we play for the princely sum of £1 each in the kitty.
Included in our membership are four octogenarians Mr. John Doe, Mr. Graham Jenkins, Mr. Dennis Ralphs and Mr. Ewart Pryer. John, Graham and Dennis are to be taken seriously in any competition. Ewart is just starting back after taking some time away from the game.
May I share a few moments with you regarding my year as Senior's Captain of Pontypool Golf Club, 2010.
During my handover speech to the new Captain I could not help but to reminisce in my mind. Precisely 10 years ago I was both Captain of the Seniors and Team Captain (player) at the ripe old age of 67. I was still a 7 handicapper and I believed I was the oldest lowest handicapper in Gwent!!! Here I am today with a handicap of 17 meaning that for the 10 years older I am 10 shots worse - proving that old age doesn't come on by itself.
Some pleasant things happened during my year in office. One pleasurable duty was to present John Doe with a card and cake on achieving the magical figure of 80 years of age. I personally don't see him looking any older than he did 20 years ago (he puts it down to clean living). Well done John. The highlight of the year was our day out with the Seniors to Belmont.
A few people who warrant my thanks is as follows :-
I sincerely hope I didn't offend anyone with my after dinner jokes!!! But on reflection if I did: tough!!
