Les and Norman - changing over!!
Having accepted John Burgess's request to be Vice Captain of the Seniors' Section, in 2009,I must admit I did wonder whether, or not, I would have misgivings about taking on the responsibility for a third time. However, I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the two years and thank John for making it possible.
Further thanks must also be expressed to the many people who gave me considerable help and support. Stewards, Judith and Paul, and their staff (including the bar staff) for meals and buffets etc. provided throughout the year; Club Secretary, Les Dodd, for willingly giving help and advice when required; Handicap Secretary, Alan Smith, for his knowledge of rules of golf and K.O. draw; Hughie Gallagher, for running the raffles to subsidise Away Days, meals and buffets; Brian Harris, for running the wine competitions and presentation; Howard Grocott, for help with the Mixed Competition; David Young, for looking after our financial affairs so efficiently and willingly helping with the raffles and wine competitions; And last, but certainly by no means least, Seniors' Secretary, Owen Lewis. After reluctantly volunteering to take on the responsibility, he proved to be most efficient and helpful. The big regret is that, because of injury, he has had to give up golf and resign from full membership of the golf club. He will be sadly missed and the hope is that he will return to full fitness and possibly rejoin. We wish him well.
No Section would be successful without the full support of it's members and I have been very pleased with the way I have been supported throughout the last year. Thank you all most sincerely.
I was delighted when Norman Dodd accepted the invitation to be my Vice Captain. His help has been much appreciated and I wish him every success in 2011.
