Diary
Wednesday 5th May. Monmouth came to the club bringing with them many familiar faces. The matches, played under cloudy bright conditions, generally were quite close, with lots of ebb and flow. Home advantage finally paid off and we managed to win in the last few matches. At the social and dinner afterwards, many old friends were re-acquainted and new friendships formed.
Monday 10th May. 27 members came out to play for the Donovan Cup. The winner with the grand total of 42 points was Stewart Gwyther. Runner Up was Terry Watkins with 38 points.
Thursday 13th May. Ten mixed teams of ladies and seniors competed in a Texas scramble. The sun shone but there was a cool wind. Every member of the teams of four, took up the challenge, with some good golf being played. The winning team, by a whisker, was made up of Lynne Morgan, Pam Rostron, Brian Harris and Bill Rostron. The close runners -up were Nora Baynham, Margaret Van-de-Weyer, Leighton Jones and Dennis Daley. The Ladies are to be congratulated for organizing the event and providing, (with the help of Paul & Judith), a well presented buffet.
Thursday 1st April. This opening match of the year was played at Cradoc Golf Club, Brecon. The game was played in wintry conditions. We teed off in light rain which turned into a monsoon. Play was abandoned after eight holes. Fortunately, a hot shower and a lively social and dinner made the day worthwhile.
Thursday 5th April We entertained the Llanwern Golf Club. This time we played in sunshine with a cool breeze. The match was played competitively, we managed to win. The highlight of the day was a hole in one, on the par three 2nd, by Mr. Keith Goulding, of the Llanwern Club.
Our congratulations go to Mr George Sims, Mr. Dennis Ralphs and Mr Graham Evans for successfully qualifying for the Add-y-Wint competition.
Tuesday 27th April Our 14 man team travelled to the Blackwood Club, for a 10 o'clock start. We were given a warm welcome and a very competitive round of golf. The condition of the grass was better than our course at this time of year, making the putting greens slower. The home side handled the course better than us and won the contest.
